Inhibitors of Steroid Biosynthesis Steroid biosynthesis can be blocked by a number of compounds that inhibit the activity of one or more of the enzyme systems involved in the pathway. These agents have been found to have clinical use in the investigation of pituitary–adrenal function, as an adjunct to the treatment of Cushing's syndrome, and as a method of reducing oestrogen synthesis in the treatment of women with breast cancer.
